CSI Theater Dept presents "An Enemy of the People"

CSI Theater Department opens the spring season with another classic, one that examines the nature of democracy and the will and strength of the individual to stand alone. The Norwegian playwright’s classic 1882 play chronicles the story of a doctor who discovers life-threatening contaminant that is polluting the water supply for his town’s health spa, the lifeblood of the local economy. The doctor’s determination to spread the alarm faces opposition from his brother, the mayor, and many whom he believed to be allies, as the debate about how to address the problem unfolds—engaging broad themes of truth, right and wrong, and mob mentality. This hard-hitting masterpiece is considered by many to be the first modern tragedy and serves as a connection between the classics of the ancient world and our modern culture--another in our exploration of diverse and classic artists from around the world.
